Army bombs Maekanal village in Myawaddy Township

Two jet fighters of the military council bombarded the area near Maekanal village in Myawaddy Township of Karen State on the early morning of 11 April, according to locals.

Since 4 April, a combined force of Karen revolutionary forces raided the military camps and Border Guard Force (BGF) camps based in Shwe Kokko new town in Myawaddy Township. Till date, fighting continues.

A local from Myawaddy told the Narinjara: “At around 7 am today, around 10 explosions were heard. The army’s two jet fighters bombed the area at around 7 am. The People’s Defense Force (PDF) captured the area near Maekanal village. The military used air force as it suffered heavy losses in the previous days.”

On the morning, the explosions were heard even from Mae Sot of Thailand and shook the houses, some Myanmar expats in Mae Sot.

The extent of damages is still unknown. The revolutionary force have not released any information about it.

Maekanal village is located about 10 miles from Shwe Kokko new town.

Due to fighting since the early April, nearly 10,000 locals from Myawaddy Township have fled to Thailand. Currently, tension continues to mount near Myawaddy Township.

After the decision made by the combined ground military column, ten revolutionary forces issued a statement on 7 April, calling on the public not to use Asia Highway between Myawaddy and Kawkareik, since 7 April till 21 April,
