Restrictions make availability of rations more difficult

Due to intense fighting and restrictions by both sides, buying rations and medicine for the IDPs in Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region become more difficult, the persons helping the IDPs told the Than Lwin Times.

Since March, Tanintharyi Township where martial law was imposed has seen frequent fighting. Recent days, fighting between the two armed groups has intensified.

Due to intense fighting, the revolutionary force has urged the public to avoid using the Union road and Tanintharyi-Mawtaung road in Tanintharyi Township. The military council has restricted the transport of basic foodstuff and medicine.

Due to the restrictions from both sides, no organizations come to visit the IDP camps. The aid organizations are facing difficulties in buying ration and medicine due to intense fighting, a person helping the IDPs said.

At present, the IDPs have to rely on the remaining ration. They may face a shortage of rations within two weeks.

Due to ongoing fighting, over 15,000 locals from 15 villages including Theinkhun, Yebyu, Thaebyu, Chaunghnapauk and Banlamyut villages in Tanintaryi Township have fled for safety. Most of IDPs are taking shelters in forests, farms and monasteries.

Some people have moved to downtown Myeik and other villages, according to locals.

During the two-year coup, fighting has displaced more than 40,000 people in Tanintharyi Region, according to the data released by local research team.
