The military council has issued an arrest warrant for MMK 30 million against U Min Lwin Oo, the leader of the Democracy Movement Strike – Dawei District, for disrupting stability and public interest in Launglon Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, according to the strike committee.

The head of the Dawei District Security and Peace Development Team under the military council said action was taken against the leader of the strike committee, which conducts nonviolent public organizing and awareness activities in LaunglonTownship, after local parents complained that their children had been persuaded by the group.

“Our revolution is a people’s revolution born from the people. The young people who are leading this revolution are participating of their own free will and conviction. These young people have the ability to think for themselves. We can’t manipulate them in any way. Their accusations are unfounded because the people themselves have shaped this revolution,” U Min Lwin Oo told the Karen Information Center (KIC).

Despite security concerns for members of their committee, they are determined to continue public strikes against the junta, no matter how many arrest warrants the military council issues, he said.

Another young man participating in the public strikes against the dictatorship stated, “We don’t participate in the strikes for fun. We know how risky it is to participate in the strikes. It is simply not true that we are being manipulated because we are naive. They are just trying to tarnish the image of the revolution.”

In March 2021, the military council issued an arrest warrant for U Min Lwin Oo under Section 505(a), and in March 2023, according to the strike committee, U Min Lwin Oo was added to the list of fugitives prosecuted under the Counter-Terrorism Law, along with his photograph.

The Democracy Movement Strike – Dewei District was formed by youth who led public strikes in Dawei District, local strike committees and other revolutionary forces with the aim of leading public strikes in Dawei District.

As of 10 April, the military regime had arrested more than 20,000 people for their participation in anti-junta activities and sentenced more than 100 of them to death, according to a report released on 11 April by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
