Regime soldiers kill innocent civilian in Tanintharyi’s Thayetchaung

Military council soldiers and members of a pro-military militia have arrested and murdered a Yange village resident named Ko Win Htike on Pewa beach near Pedet village in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, locals told Than Lwin Times.

Ko Win Htike reportedly disappeared after being abducted by the junta soldiers and the militia members at around 9 am on 17 March while on his way from Yange to Pedet to sell goods. Locals found him dead on Pewa beach later the same day at around 4 pm.

Ko Win Htike was beaten and tortured by regime soldiers after his arrest. Swollen wounds were found on his chest, neck and face, as well as gunshot wounds to his chest.

Ko Win Htike was a bachelor who sold vegetables from one village to another on a motorcycle, leaving behind a visually impaired father.

Until the morning of 18 March, no one had dared to collect his body.

Pro-military Telegram channels wrote that Ko Win Htike had been killed because he supported the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

The military council’s column, which had been advancing into Thayetchaung Township since 7 February, had also arrested and killed two other residents of Yange village.
