“Don’t blame the Myanmar army if the problem arises in Arakan State, the military spokesperson says

May 20th, 2022

The Arakan Army’s (AA) current word is the call of war. Don’t blame the Myanmar army if the problem arises in Arakan State, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Spokesperson of the military council said at the press conference on May 19th.

“Now we are carefully dealing with the situations in order not to cause trouble to the people. I will repeat it. We are patiently working for the union and peace. I want to say “Don’t blame the Myanmar army if the problem arises. It is found that the AA’s current word is the call of war and the invitation of armed conflict. It also threatens the military command” he added.

Since November, 2020, fighting between the Myanmar army and the AA has stopped through mutual understanding.

During the ceasefire period, the AA is implementing its judicial and administrative sectors in Arakan State. Later, the Myanmar army is asking and searching the people who have links with the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA), in the villages in Arakan State.

The AA’s military chief Maj-Gen Tun Myat Naing issued a warning to the Commander of the Western Command based in Ann Township in Arakan State. “Ko Htin Latt Oo, don’t go too far. You have been irritating. I won’t give a shit about peace. I will come to your place and crush it,” wrote the AA military chief on his Twitter.

Fighting may occur at any time due to the continued military tension between the military council and the AA, according to the AA’s statement on May 15th.

On May 16th, the top leaders of the ULA/AA first held an online meeting with the leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) about the current political situations.

The ULA/AA told the media that it would not attend the peace talk invited by military chief Min Aung Hlaing.
