ABSDF says it would join hands with anti-regime groups to fight against the military dictatorship

November 1st, 2020

The All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) would participate in the fight against the military regime in cooperation with the anti-regime groups by upholding four political principles, according to its statement issued to mark the 33rd anniversary of founding the ABSDF.

The ABSDF’s four political principles are: Freedom for all from military dictatorship, enjoying democracy and human rights, achieving local peace and the emergence of a federal Union.

Comrade Than Khae, Spokesperson of the ABSDF told the KIC that “Nowadays, it is time to collectively build up a federal democracy which is the desire of the public. Our country cannot go ahead with the military dictatorship in this 21st century. We all know that the military dictatorship cannot bring any benefit to the country. We all need to change it.”

The ABSDF would participate in the fight against the military regime in cooperation with the anti-regime groups like the People’s Defence Force (PDF), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the National Unity Government (NUG), which emerged from the Spring Revolution. The ABSDF welcomed and joined hands with the revolutionary organizations which emerged as a result of the Spring Revolution, he continued.

The military staged an attempted coup on February 1st. The military is trying to cement the military dictatorship.

The ABSDF has been engaging in political, military and diplomatic arenas. Now it continues to work in these arenas. The ABSDF respects, values and salutes the fallen comrades throughout the journey.

The ABSDF faced widespread criticism over the attendance of the ceremony to mark the 6th anniversary of signing the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) organized by the military council in Nay Pyi Taw on October 15th.

The ABSDF responded that the attendance of the ceremony was not the desire of the ABSDF (central).

The ABSDF was established by students, workers, farmers and youths who defied the military coup in the border area after the crackdown on the 8888 Uprising in 1988. The ABSDF is active in the Karen National Union (KNU)-controlled areas in Karen State and the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO)-controlled areas in northern Kachin State.
