Airstrike attacks in KNU make local and even Thai nationals on borders displaced

5 May 2021
Phado Mahn Mahn, the spokesperson of KNU Brigade (5), said that fighting between military troops and Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5) in recent days caused locals and the hundreds of Thai people living near the borderline displaced as well.

“Thai people from Fha Ta Sai village, Mae Fha Tar, are afraid of living in their village because Myanmar military choppers are flying and bombarding even in the territory of Thailand,” said Phado Mahn Mahn.

Phado Mahn Mahn said that after Karen National Union (KNU) Briagde (5) subordinate groups on April 27 occupied Thaw Lae Hta Military Base in Thai-Myanmar border, the military’s artillery attack had reached even within Thailand’s territory.
Today’s Bangkok Post stated that around 500 Thai residents on borderland left their villages because of the fighting between military troops and Karen Armed Organizations.

Since after KNU/KNLA members on April 27 occupied Myanmar military base located near the Sop Moei District, Mae Kong Son Province, around 200 residents from Ban Sam Laep village were evacuated to temporary shelter in Ban Kwai Khong Kup.

“Military choppers are bombing. They are like threatening the villagers. Today before 12:00 PM, four bombs are exploded near Pun-Htar-Pwar-Taw.”
Phado Mahn Mahn said that due to the military’s attack, displaced locals were living in Thailand illegally and therefore the negotiations were made with Thai authority not to drive them away and the responsible persons tried to make Thai residents convinced.

Airstrike attack by military in Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5) since after the end of March made a lot of villages and houses damaged and nearly 30,000 locals displaced.
