Junta arrests four including woman for alleged links to PDF in Mawlamyine

The military council arrested a woman and three men for allegedly coming to join the PDF training course in Mawlamyine of Mon State and then charged them under the section of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

On 19 April, the military council arrested Ma Myo Thanda Aye from Sagaing, Ye Ko Waing (aka) Ko Paing, Min Khant Naing and Min Thurain from Thaketa Township in Yangon Region, at Zinyaw guesthouse in Hlaing ward in Mawlamyine, local residents said.

Local residents said the military council is arresting civilians for alleged links to the PDF in Mawlamyine. Young people walking on the streets are being arrested and are being prosecuted on various charges.

A local from Mawlamyine said: “Arrests become rampant in Mawlamyine. The junta usually arrests civilians under the various sections. The pedestrians who encounter soldiers get arrested if they look suspicious. The people have to be careful about travelling.”

On 29 April, the military council charged four detainees under Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

On 29 April, the military council arrested Ko Ye Lin Phyo, for allegedly funding the PDF, at his house on U Sit Maung street in Myaingtharyar ward, local residents said.

In April, seven people got arrested in Mon State, topping the list, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).

More than 200 people were arrested for alleged links to the PDFs in Thanphyuzayat, Mawlamyine, Ye, Thaton and Paung Townships in Mon State in 2023. Most of them have been charged under sections of the Counter-Terrorism Law.
