KNPP discusses humanitarian issue with US foreign policy advisor

Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) discussed the matter relating to humanitarian aid in a meeting with Derek Chollet, the US foreign policy advisor, according to U Aung San Myint, Secretary-1 of the KNPP.

“At the meeting, we provided updates on the current political and military situations and the situations of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs),” U Aung San Myint said.

The meeting between Derek Chollet and the leaders of the K3C—Karen National Union (KNU), Kachin Independence Army (KIA), KNPP and Chin National Front (CNF)— and the NUG’s officials was held on 28 March.

“At present, we don’t have any specific agreement. We provided updates and discussed a plan to cooperate on humanitarian aid. That’s all. We presented our stance towards humanitarian aid. We have issued the statement on our stance,” U Aung San Myint added.

Derek Chollet, the US foreign policy advisor said on X (formerly known as Twitter) that “he discussed steps for the international community to expand assistance to those in need and secure a better future for the people of Myanmar.”

With the aim of ending military dictatorship and building a federal democratic union, Chin National Front (CNF), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Karen National Union (KNU), the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the National Unity Government (NUG) issued a joint position statement on 31 January 2024.

Among these positions, the vision, goal, stance and process pertaining to the process of ending the military dictatorship and ensuring the emergence of a federal democratic union, are described step by step.
