Young villager charged for allegedly funding PDF in Thanbyuzayat

The military council has filed a case against a 19-year-old man from Warkharu village in Thanbyuzayat Township of Mon State for allegedly funding the People’s Defense Force (PDF), under the Counter-Terrorism Law, according to the persons close to his family.

On the evening of 25 March, Maung Khant Min Thu was arrested for collecting donations for the PDF through Facebook, said a person close to the family.

“At around 7 pm on 25 March, he was arrested. At the time of arrest, he was not at home. He was not arrested at his home. He was arrested as the military council got the information that he was collecting donations by setting up a page on social media,” he said.

The military council filed a case against him under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, with Police Case No.47/2024, for funding terrorist organizations.

In late February, the military council filed a case against Maung Hlwan Moe Zaw (aka) Nay Toe, 18,  from Thanbyuzayat for his alleged involvement in the attack on Htinru police outpost in Thanbyuzayat Township as a PDF member.

The military council is carrying out frequent arrests of the civilians accused of funding the PDFs and seizures of houses in Thanbyuzayat Township.

According to the records of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military council arrested at least 800 civilians in Mon State since the coup. Most of them have been sentenced.
