Junta imposes travel ban on locals in Pwintphyu and Saytoketayar

The military council has banned locals from travelling in some villages in Pwintphyu and Saytoketayar Townships of Magway Region as it plans to form militia forces, according to locals.

On 15 February, the military council informed the villagers about the travel ban through the administrators. The military council also directed the administrators not to sign recommendation letter for travelling.

The military council has forced villagers to join the Pyu Saw Htee under the pretext of protecting the village community. The military council plans to check the entry and exit of people at the checkpoint, a local said.

“I have heard that some villages have already formed militia forces. The villagers are undergoing training. The military council asked the administrator to send recruits in my village. The village denied it. They are doing it under the pretext of protecting the village community,” the local said.

The similar cases are reported not only in the villages in Salin and Pwintphyu Townships but also in Dahatkan and Kanhla villages in Magway Region, the locals said

On 5 February, the military conucil conducted the Pyu Saw Htee militia training for Kyaung Kone Gyi village in Pwintphyu Township at the fooball ground in Mae Zali village, locals said.

Since January, the military council has been conducting the Pyu Saw Htee militia training across the country and armed them, local residents said.
