More than 160 junta soldiers including colonel, Lt-col, majors and deputy police majors, were killed and some junta soldiers arrested in the fighting to seize Shadaw Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, according to the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force’s (KNDF) statement.

According to the press statement on the military status of the KNDF’s attack and capture of Shadaw town released on 16 February stated that three members of KNDF were killed in the fighting.

A combined force of Karenni Army (KA), Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and Loikaw PDF jointly carried out attacks on the military council’s camps and strategic hills in and around Shadaw, where the junta troops were carrying out constant arrests of civilians and stationed for nearly one month. On 12 February, the Karenni revolutionary forces sezied control of them.

When the joint forces of the revolution surrounded the strategic hill, they repeatedly invited the military council forces to surrender and defect, but the military council forces did not accept it.

On the morning of 12 February, the joint force launched an offensive and seized them.

Shadaw has been completely controlled by the joint forces of the revolution, the KNDF’s statement says.

In the battle, the KNDF seized 128 small arms, 18 heavy weapons, three smoke guns, one jammer gun, communication devices, ammunition and other materials.

In the fighting, the military council conducted airstrikes more than 200 times, according to the KNDF’s statement.

In the battle to capture Shadaw, seven civilians including one pregnant woman were abducted and killed by the military council. The military council’s airstrikes destroyed more than 40 buildings in the town, according to the KNDF.
