“The fighting started early in the morning. At around 2pm , an Mi-35 helicopter came from the military council side and dropped seven bombs,” said Ko Sai Nyi, spokesman for the Southern Brothers Army (SBA).

The fighting with the combined resistance force intensified when a Myanmar Army column of more than 100 soldiers entered Ban Law village in Tanintharyi Township around 7am on 2 February, he said.

While there were no casualties among the combined resistance forces, the damage to civilians’ houses and buildings was still under investigation, according to sources.

In addition to the clashes between the two sides, the military junta’s airstrikes have forced hundreds of residents of Ban Law and 6-Maing villages to flee their homes, according to locals.

Fighting in Tanintharyi Township has been ongoing since 15 January and has expanded from Nyaung Pin Kwin and Tone Taw to Ban Law village, according to resistance groups.

According to statements, the military council suffered nearly 20 casualties, while three local civilians were killed by artillery fire from junta troops.
