Deputy Thanbyuzayat township administrator arrested

A 40-year-old deputy staff officer of the General Administration Department of Thanbyuzayat Township of Mon State was arrested and prosecuted by the military council on 18 December, according to sources close to the military council.

A person close to the military council said that the arrest was made because it was discovered that U Aung Ko Ko from Kyantkhaingyay ward in Thanbyuzayat, had sent information about the department’s employees to opposing organizations. He got arrested for connection with the PDF from Thanbyuzayat.”

A person close to the military council said: “He is an informant. The military council arrested and took action against the deputy township administrator from Thanbyuzayat Township General Administration Department.”

Currently, the military council has filed the case against Deputy Township Administrator U Aung Ko Ko of Thanbyuzayat Township General Administration Department under Section 52 (a) of the Counter Terrorism Law at Thanbyuzayat Myoma Police Station with (pa) 136/2023.

On 30 November, U Myint Than was arrested along with arms and ammunition in Thanbyuzayat, local residents said.

As a result of U Myint Than’s testimony, the military council consecutively arrested about 100 residents, including the owner of Hayman Construction Company Ko Tayoke and some businesspersons in Thanbyuzayat.

At present, among those arrested, at least 50 people accused of funding PDF are being detained and interrogated in Waekali station, according to people close to the military council.

The news emerged that U Myint Than and Ko Min Min died during the interrogation, local residents said.

The military council sealed off and seized the houses and properties of five detainees and continued to arrest the rest, according to local residents.
