The military council has again arrested seven civilians, including three children, in Mogaung, Kachin State, over the past two days, according to local residents.

Junta soldiers stormed a house in Mogaung’s Namyin Ward on 8 October and arrested six members of a family, including three children under five, two women and a man, a Mogaung resident said.

“They didn’t get who they wanted to arrest, so they came and arrested the family members instead. Three young children were taken away. They haven’t been released until today,” the resident said.

On the same day, military council soldiers stormed another house in Namyin village and a restaurant in Ahsheysu, residents reported.

However, the two other house raids did not result in any arrests, another Mogaung resident said.

“They do house searches to arrest whoever they want. They searched three houses that day. But in two of the houses, they didn’t arrest anyone. In the last house, they arrested the family including the children,” said the resident.

In addition, on 9 October, around 3 pm, six plainclothes soldiers came in a civilian vehicle and arrested U AungTun Min from the barber shop in front of Basic Education High School No (1) in Mogaung, according to residents.

It is not known where those arrested are being held. Their relatives are concerned as there are three young children among those arrested.

According to residents, there have been raids and arrests by the plainclothes military council soldiers in Mogaung for over a month since a school bus was shot at on 9 August. Hundreds of people have been arrested.

Some of those arrested have been released on bail, but most are still in custody. Some are facing charges, according to locals.
