More than 1,000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) who are taking refuge in Muse of northern Shan State are in need of food and clothing, according to the persons helping the IDPs.

A person helping the IDPs said: “We need food. Most people donate female clothes. We have no male clothes. Male IDPs have no longyis to take a bath. The IDPs can bring nothing when they flee their homes.”

There are 1,110 IDPs in total—230 in Honar ward, 160 in Swansaw ward, 290 in Hmankan village and 430 at Zayat in Nansant (Tonekhwan) village in Muse Township. They are in need of aid, the persons helping the IDPs said.

The IDPs are from Sallant village-tract, Hmankan village-tract, Namkat village and Mongsat village.

Some IDPs are taking shelter in the houses of their relatives in Namkham and Muse.

The military council is firing heavy shells into the villages although there is no fighting. The IDPs don’t dare to go home and continue to stay in Muse, the IDPs said.

A Muse resident helping the IDPs said: “The sounds of heavy shells are still heard in their village. They are unable to go home as fighting continues. The people who remain in the village also ask for help. Today, we provide aid to them.”

On 29 August, the IDPs fled to Muse due to the clashes between the military council force and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in the villages.

From August to 1 September, there were 24 clashes between the military council force and the TNLA in Muse and Kutkai Townships, according to the TNLA’s statement.
