During more than 2 years of the military coup, Chin State is among the areas with the most difficult and needy humanitarian assistance, according to the paper issued by Burma News International (BNI)-Burma Peace Monitor (MPM).

The BNI-MPM on 20 July held a virtual launch of a paper titled “A Riddle for International Donor Governments or Finding Solutions to Humanitarian Crisis”.

In more than 2 years since the military coup, there have been more than 1.5 million Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Myanmar. Sagaing region has more than 660,000 million IDPs and is in need of humanitarian assistance most and the most difficult area, followed by Magway Region with more than 230,000 IDPs. In addition, Chin State, Karenni (Kayah) and Karen State are on the third priority list, according to the paper.

“The junta burned down the whole village, including rations stored for a year. Also, as the cattle used for farming in the rural area were also killed, they really need help. On the other hand, the military council adopts a “four-cuts” strategy in order that food rations cannot be provided in those places. Sagaing Region, Magway Region, Chin State and Karenni State will be the most difficult ones,” Dr. Ngai Tam Maung, Deputy Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government (NUG) said.

The paper suggests the figures, data and ways to provide humanitarian aid in Myanmar, the importance of cross-border aid and ways of making approaches to Thailand and India.

According to the Humanitarian Response Plan 2022 report released by UNOCHA, only 9 million US dollars were used for the entire year for more than 500,000 IDPs. An IDP only received aid equivalent to US$17, the paper said.
