Man loses leg in landmine explosion in Hakha

October 5th, 2022

A 30-year-old man from Hakha of Chin State lost his left leg as he stepped on a landmine while finding vegetables in the forest on October 1st.

U Byat Kyone from Htar ward in Hakha was seriously injured in the landmine explosion. He received an operation at Hakha People’s Hospital. His left leg was cut off.

“On Saturday, his left leg was cut off. Now he is in stable condition. However, he will have to stay in hospital for many days,” said a person close to the patient.

Locals have assumed that the landmine is planted by the military council force. The KMG is unable to confirm it separately.

Hakha sees frequent clashes between the military council and Chinland Defense Forces. Six civilians from downtown Hakha were killed by the military council’s heavy shelling.

At least 10 locals were injured in the landmine explosions in Chin State, following the coup, according to the Chin Human Rights Organization.
