Mistaken shooting between Military Council and BGF: Twelve BGF and three soldiers died

KNU 5th Brigade has confirmed that 12 BGF members and 3 soldiers died due to the mistaken shooting between Karen Border Guard Forces (BGF) members and military troops in the evening of May 13.

Yesterday evening around 3 PM the mistaken shooting had occurred between the members of the (1013) Subordinate Battalion of the BGF General Secretary Chief Colonel Saw Chit Thu and Myanmar military’s Infantry Battalion (KaMaYa-408) in Dwe Lo township in the KNU 5th Brigade territory, recounted Colonel Saw Kler Doh, spokesperson of the KNU 5th Brigade.

“Yesterday at around 3:50 PM, the soldiers of KaMaYa-408 falsely shot with BGF-1013 members near Maw Law Klo village. Twelve BGF members, three soldiers and three locals died because of such mistaken shooting,” reported to KIC.

Furthermore, yesterday at round 3:23 PM, the fighting took place between the members of three sub-unit under 102nd Battalion of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) of KNU 5th Brigade and Myanmar military’s Infantry Battalion (KaMaYa-408). Nine soldiers were killed and six injured in the fighting however no one from KNLA’s side got hurt, told Colonel Saw Kler Doh.

Nowadays military conflict has been intensifying in the KNU 5th Brigade territory and BGF General Secretary Chief Colonel Saw Chit Thu sent more than 100 troops in the very first days of May. Therefore, the day-to-day confrontations have been occurring between KNLA and the joint force of military troops and BGF.

Similarly, it was heard from KNU 5th Brigade’s responsible persons that Military Council retreated some of their bases and conjoined with large camps nearby.
