On May 5th, a peace walk on the theme of ‘Respect the diversity and prevent the conflicts caused by the religious/ethnic intolerance’ was held by an international NGO, International Peace Youth Group(IPYG), and 6 other local youth organizations in East Timor. 300 participants including university students and volunteers gathered in Largo de Lecidere Park in Dili to raise their voice to establish an international peace law and spread a culture of peace.​

The peace walk that celebrated its 5th anniversary this year was carried out not only for building a peaceful global society but also for supporting the reunification of Korean Peninsula attracting global attention due to the recent inter-Korean summit. During the peace walk, about 120 people took part in writing ‘Peace Letter’ campaign which urged for the implementation of the peace law based on the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War(DPCW) to the president of Timor-Leste.​

The DPCW drafted by an international peace NGO, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light(HWPL), is the declaration with 10 articles and 38 clauses that address provisions including respect on international law, ethnic/religious harmony and spreading a culture of peace to avoid war-related actions and achieve a peaceful world.

Such a peace campaign with the title of ‘Resolving conflicts and spreading a culture of peace through the DPCW’ will be held in various countries in the world in commemoration of ‘The 5th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace’ during May.​
