Five civilians were wounded in the military council’s two-day shootings in Pala of Palaw Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to locals.

At around 9 am on 18 August, the military council shot three local men near the signboard of Pala.

A local said: “They were sitting near the signboard of Pala. As soon as the soldiers came near them, they got scared and ran away. They were hit by bullets as the military council was chasing and shot them.”

Two men got minor wounds in the shooting while the rest got a wound to the thigh. Now they are receiving medical treatment in Myeik, he continued.

At night on 17 August, a local man and a woman were wounded by the military council’s indiscriminate shooting following the ambush on a patrolling military vehicle in Pala, according to locals.

The military council forces patrolling the town shout at the pedestrians and do not allow them to cross the road. In addition, they were firing guns, the locals said.

Artillery shelling and the arrest of civilians are reported every day in Palaw Township where martial law is declared. The township also sees the deployment of military council troops, according to locals.
