IDP sites are facing difficulties in the availability of shelter and ration during this rainy season as the military council has tightened inspections at checkpoints in Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region.

Due to the accommodation difficulties, the IDPs are affected by the weather. There is a shortage of sanitary pads for the displaced women, said an aid worker.

“Shelters are not sufficient as Tanintharyi Region usually faces heavy rains and strong winds. There is a need for shelter due to a shortage of sanitary pads and rain-soaked underwear,” said the aid worker.

The junta has totally restricted the collection of rations. Bus lines don’t allow the people to carry rations due to tightened inspections.

The similar ban also applies to some villages in Yebyu, Launglon, Palaw, Thayetchaung and Dawei Townships, according to aid workers.

An official from Nway Oo Myitta IDP aid group said the group faced difficulties in the distribution of rations and health care services as IDPs in the township are taking shelter in suitable places.

“We distribute food once a month. Aid is sufficient only for 15 days. For the remaining days, they themselves have to earn their living. The IDPs are taking shelter not only at the IDP camp but also in other places. They have to take refuge in suitable places. We have compiled the list of them. The IDPs are told to gather in a place on the ration distribution day.

In particular, volunteers and CDM health workers are providing health care to the elderly and pregnant women in Tanintharyi Township.

During the current monsoon season, there is a need for medicine and health care for malaria and diarrhea, relief workers said.

There has been an increase in the number of locals displaced by the fighting in Dawei, Thayetchaung, Yebyu, Palaw and Tanintharyi in April and May, bringing the number to nearly 60,000, according to officials from Fe 5 Tanintharyi.
