The military council announced on 4 April that 15 people, including Ei Shwe Sin Myint, in charge of the Federal School of Aung Myay Thar Zan, had been arrested for illegal educational activities in connection with the National Unity Government (NUG).

The regime claimed that the online school started its classes in February 2022 and donated the money collected to the NUG.

According to the regime’s announcement, the 15 people include 13 women and two men, but it is not clearly stated whether all of them are teachers. The detainees are named as Ei Shaw Sin, Tin Tin Latt, San San Win, Khaing Mar Than, Nay Kyi Win, Khin Kyi Mar Wai, Aye Myat Mon, Khin New Oo, Yin Yin Min, Khin Myat Naing, Khaing Mar Phyo, Ei Ei Aung, Chaw Su Than, Kyaw San Htwe and Zaw Myo Tun.

The military council also said it will continue to take action against the enrolled students and their parents for “illegal school attendance.”

“No one has trust in their (Ma Ah La, the Burmese acronym for the name of coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, but also for the swear word “mother******) education. That’s why parents and students choose these (online) schools. And they will somehow continue to attend them despite the arrests. They to threaten and hinder online education just because it is better than their own,” said a female teacher.
