Some people recorded the smiles that appeared when she shook hands with the coup leader. The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, and the leader of the military council, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, greeted each other with smiles and laughter.
The smiles of the two, which were watched with interest by the international community along with Myanmar resistance forces, were even criticized as “disappointing smiles.” Some believe that the meeting between the two was not conducive in the least to the overall crisis triggered by an attempted coup that has resulted in great loss of life and property of the people of Myanmar.
