More than 2,000 locals flee to Mizoram due to fighting in Rikhawdar

More than 2,000 people fled to Zokhawthar village in Mizoram State of India due to the clash between the military council troops and Chinland Defense Force (CDF) at No.2 ward in Rikhawdar in Falam Township of Chin State on the India-Myanmar border on March 5th.

The refugees are from Rikhawdar and nearby areas. The people from Zokhawthar village have accommodated more than 500 refugees at three warehouses.

A youth from Zokhawthar village said: “Since 4 am Indian Standard Time, they fled to our village. The exact number of refugees is still unknown. Some refugees are staying at their relatives’ houses. The people from Zokhawthar village provide meals for the refugees.”

On February 27th, a combined force of the Chin National Army (CNA), the PDF-Zoland, the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF), the CDM-Siyin and the CDF- Hualngoram attacked the Tochaung hill at No.2 ward in Rikhawdar in Falam Township in Chin State.

Nine soldiers of the military council were killed in the attack. There were no reports of casualties from the CDF.

Currently, around 5,000 refugees are taking shelter in Zokhawthar village.
