Two civilians were injured when the military council bombed Kyon Kha Wun village in Kyainseikgyi Township, Karen State, according local residents.
A local resident said the military bombed and attacked the village with airplanes at around 2am on 9 September without any ongoing battle.
“They bombed the village at around 2am this morning. They dropped 500-pound, 300-pound and 200-pound bombs, and also fired rockets. There was no fighting at that time. One elderly person suffered serious injuries. A child was also injured,” the resident said.
A 60-year-old man was seriously injured in the bombing and a 3-year-old child suffered a bullet wound to the head, he said. According to a family member, the severely injured man is being treated in hospital.
“Our father-in-law is now in hospital. The elderly man was hit in the genitals. He has only a 30 percent chance of survival. The nephew was slightly hit in the head. The nephew has already been discharged from hospital. Now the people from Kyon Kha Wun and nearby villages have all fled,” said a family member.
Due to the military’s airstrikes, hundreds of residents from at least five villages including Kyon Kha Wun, Taung Dee, Hka Lel-Ta Khun Taing, and Hpar Pya have fled to safer areas.
Kyon Kha Wun village in Kyainseikgyi Township is under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU) and is known to be an area where resistance forces are operate.
The military has carried out consecutive airstrikes in recent days in areas where it has lost territories, such as in northern Shan State and Karenni State.
The military junta has now conducted airstrikes on civilian villages in KNU territory without any ongoing battles.
The junta has carried out a series of airstrikes in ethnic areas after military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said in Taunggyi on 3 September that they would respond as needed based on intelligence in towns and villages occupied by armed groups, and that people should be cautious for the sake of their safety.
