The Ye People’s Defense Force (YPDF) and the Mon State Federal Council (MSFC) jointly announced on March 31 that they have joined forces to wage a revolutionary struggle until the military junta and its authoritarian rule are completely dismantled.
The YPDF, formed under the leadership of Bo Yan Naing since the onset of the Spring Revolution, reached this agreement with the MSFC to collaborate politically and militarily.
This alliance means that the YPDF will join the MSFC as a member organization, with both groups committing to fight together until the military council and its dictatorial system are entirely uprooted, as outlined in their joint statement.
Nai Naga, spokesperson for the Mon State Revolution Force (MSRF), which operates under the MSFC’s Department of Defense, explained that the two groups have already fought side by side on the ground.
“Given our shared goal and vision of swiftly overthrowing the military council and building a genuine federal union, the YPDF has joined forces with the MSFC to work together,” Nai Naga said.
He added: “We’ve already fought alongside the MSRF, which operates under the MSFC’s Department of Defense. That’s why we’ve now united to continue collaborating politically as well.”
Nai Naga went on to say that their collective efforts aim to dismantle the military junta as quickly as possible and establish a true federal union that guarantees peace, human rights, and equality.
Representatives from both the YPDF and MSFC reportedly held open and sincere discussions on 23 March to solidify this alliance.
The YPDF’s participation in the MSFC is strictly as a member organization, not as a group submitting to the MSFC’s leadership, unlike other political or military entities, according to Nai Naga’s clarification.
The MSFC represents Mon communities both within Myanmar and abroad, comprising armed resistance groups, political organizations, and civil society representatives. It serves as a federal unit representing Mon State.
Meanwhile, the YPDF operates as a People’s Defense Force in Ye Township, Mawlamyine District, Mon State, under the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG).
Currently, among the armed resistance groups representing Mon State and the Mon people, YPDF and MSFC have joined forces politically and militarily. Previously, on 19 January, four Mon armed groups also came together to form the Ramanya Joint Column, intensifying military operations in the region.
