Joint resistance forces captured the military junta’s Kyauk Htu camp near Hpaung Taw village in Ashae Taw area of Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region on 24 January, according to resistance fighters involved in the military operation.
The joint People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) stormed the Kyauk Htu camp, where over 40 junta soldiers were stationed, with superior force on the evening of 23 January and took full control of the camp on the morning of 24 January, resistance fighters said.
At least 10 military junta soldiers were killed in the resistance attack, while some managed to escape, according to a PDF member involved in the attack.
According to the resistance fighters, the resistance forces also captured a large quantity of weapons and military equipment, including two mortars, six firearms, artillery shells, mines and grenades.
The resistance forces also announced that they would provide more details about the battle that led to the capture of the Kyauk Htu camp.
Reportedly, it was the first capture of a military position by joint resistance forces in Tanintharyi Region.
