The Launglon Township People’s Administration reports that it has released a clerk and eight teachers who had been arrested for their involvement in the census-taking process in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region.

On 7 October, the Launglong Township People’s Defense Force (LLPDF) arrested eight female teachers and one female clerk from Yephyu village-tract in Launglon Township for their involvement in the census-taking process.

The LLPDF handed the nine detainees over to the Launglon People’s Administration. They were released after being sentenced by Launglon Township People’s Administration on 17 November.
An official from the Launglon Township People’s Administration said, “After interrogating the nine detainees, we sentenced eight to prison after finding them guilty. They were later released on bail.”

The official further explained that two of the detainees were sentenced to six months in prison each, while six others received three-month prison sentences. However, they only served the time they had already spent in detention. Due to the challenging regional conditions, they were required to sign a pledge promising not to participate in the junta’s activities.

The nine detainees were released on bail after being detained for 42 days by the People’s Administration.

The administrator and nine teachers were arrested on 9 October while preparing for the census-taking in Yan Taung village, Thayetchaung Township.
