The military conducted another bombing on Kutkai town in northern Shan State around midnight on 17 November, killing three residents and injuring 10 others, according to local sources.
Local residents report that the military targeted residential buildings near the Yae Htwet Oo Park Market in Ward 4 of Kutkai, which is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), using 500-pound bombs in an aerial attack.
A local man from Kutkai said that a two-month-old infant, the infant’s mother, and an elderly person were killed and ten other injured.
“The military conducted the bombing around midnight yesterday. They targeted populated areas with large buildings. Among those killed were a two-month-old baby and the mother – both died. An elderly person was also killed. There are many injured people, including some with severe injuries,” he said.
Some residents who have fled to Kutkai from Lashio are now being forced to return to Lashio due to these renewed military airstrikes, said a displaced woman from Lashio.
“We fled to Kutkai because of frequent bombings in Lashio, but now the military is bombing here too. We’re scared and having to go back to Lashio. We have nowhere left to hide. Things are getting more difficult with each passing day,” she explained.
Previously, on 1 November at around 3:30am, the military conducted an airstrike using 500-pound bombs on Ward 2 of Kutkai town, targeting areas near the Project Planning Office, Tax Office, and the toll gate near the technological college, killing a man.
This marks the fourth aerial attack by the military council on TNLA-controlled Kutkai since the second phase of “Operation 1027,” despite the absence of ground battles.
