The military junta has blocked the transportation of goods such as fuel, rice, and medicine and is seizing them at the Hmaw Bi village checkpoint in Nyaungshwe Township, Southern Shan State, according to sources.

Over the past two months, the junta has been confiscating items such as rice, oil, medicines, and even household fuel containers at checkpoints in Hmaw Bi village and along the Shan-Karenni border, said a woman who lives near the border.

“At the checkpoint, they demand tens of thousands for each vehicle passing through from the Karenni side. They’ve been confiscating rice and oil for a long time. For batteries and solar panels, they absolutely don’t allow transportation to this side (Karenni State) and immediately seize them when found,” she said.

According to reports, at these strictly controlled checkpoints, in addition to military council troops, Pa-O National Organization (PNO) members are also involved and they are arbitrarily seizing goods from merchant vehicles.

“Now, only motorcycles carrying people can pass through without any goods. These days, even people are afraid to travel,” the local woman added.

Currently, due to restrictions on the transportation of goods by the military council and PNO, people living along the Shan-Karenni border are facing significant difficulties in obtaining rice and food supplies. With the cold season approaching, there are also reports of increasing illness.
