According to a statement from the Arakha Army (AA), the military junta’s airstrikes have completely destroyed the UN office buildings in 3-Mile and Wai Thar Li villages in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, which provide humanitarian aid.

The AA reported on 10 September that the junta attacked these UN buildings were attacked around 8:30 pm on 9 September.

AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha confirmed, “Everything was completely destroyed.
The UN offices, including the UNHCR office and other offices, were completely destroyed. Everything was destroyed.”

According to reports, the airstrikes also destroyed the main building in the UN office compound, staff quarters, residential buildings, and some nearby houses.

After the fighting intensified in Maungdaw, UN office staff, including international humanitarian aid organizations and their employees, had closed their offices and evacuated to safe locations.

According to reports, the AA also managed to rescue international humanitarian aid organizations and staff who were trapped in Maungdaw during the conflict.

The UN office was established to facilitate cooperation with UN agencies such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and to carry out international humanitarian aid operations in Maungdaw District.

To protect the UN office building from the junta’s airstrikes, the letters “UN” were prominently written in white paint on a blue background on the office roof starting from the first week of February.

Despite this clear marking, the airstrike on the UN office buildings indicates that the military council rejects the humanitarian aid efforts by UN-affiliated organizations, according to U Khaing Thukha.

“These UN organizations are providing humanitarian aid, so this attack shows that the terrorist military council completely rejects humanitarian aid,” U Khaing Thukha said.

Following the attack on the UN buildings, the junta also reportedly bombed the AA’s temporary prison camp at Border Guard Police Force No. 2 (BGP-2) in Maungdaw at around 9:30pm on 9 September.

According to the AA, the junta attack on the temporary prison camp resulted in over 50 immediate deaths, including prisoners of war, and injured more than 70 others.
