A total of 57 civilians were killed during the armed conflict in Karenni State from January to July 2024, according to a statement from Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF) on 1 August.
Among those killed in the armed conflict, two civilians were killed by an unidentified armed group, said an official of PKPF Data Research Team.
“Twenty-one civilians were killed by the military council’s airstrikes, 18 arbitrarily arrested and killed, 12 by artillery shelling, four by landmine explosion, and two killed by an unknown armed group. The total number is 57,” said the official of PKPF Data Research Team.
Among the 57 civilians killed in the armed conflict for various reasons, there were 28 men, 16 women, and 13 unidentified individuals, said the official of PKPF Data Research Team.
The number of members of the Karenni resistance forces killed in Karenni State has reached 608 in the over three years since the coup, according to the PKPF’s statement.
The resistance members killed in the fighting are those killed in the battles in Loikaw, Demoso, Hpruso, Bawlakhe, Hpasawng, Mese, Shadaw, Pekon, Hsihseng, Pinlaung, Nyaungshwe and northern Shan State, said the statement.
According to the PKPF, the total number of civilians killed in Karenni State reached 514 during the over three years of armed conflict since the coup on 1 February 2021, until the end of July 2024.
