Myanmar; Brain Drain Again? – Issue 32

During ten months of the military coup, Myanmar sees the biggest problem. This is the brain drain. The innocent people are preparing to leave the country after they find it difficult to solve their daily basic needs as a result of political problems. Due to the third wave of Covid-19, the passport office in Yangon reopened on September 13th. The passport issuing office is flooded with the people.

We all assumed that the country saw a gradual shift from brain drain to brain circulation and would enjoy the result of it at a time when the country saw the quasi-civilian system in the past ten years. Those expectations have gone up in smoke in the post-coup period after the coup by military regime Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. That point pushes the people to leave the country. Youths called Generation Z have joined the armed revolution in the country while some other youths are leaving the country to pursue their education and search for job opportunities. Scholars are leaving the country due to the suspension of local businesses. The number of Myanmar people leaving the country in different forms are increasing day by day.
