The Spring Revolution against the military council and its cohorts remains strong in different forms and colours. Not only Myanmar but also the world countries are amazed by the military council’s inhumane terrorist acts against the public during 150 days of the coup.
There are frequent fights between the People’s Defense Forces PDFs in townships of regions and states and the military council’s troops. The PDFs are carrying out attacks on the military camps and police stations in Kachin State and Sagaing Region, in cooperation with ethnic armed organizations. The military is using its all forces and making brutal crackdowns on the dissidents, including airstrikes, and those who take up arms to fight against the army.
The word countries were surprised by terrorist acts committed by the military council firing heavy weapons in the city like Mandalay, and condemned them. The Myanmar Peace Monitor’s weekly review will mainly focus on some points in the news and events occurred in the second week of June.
Incident
At around 7.30 am on June 22nd, a fighting between the PDF and the military council’s troop took place in a house at the corner of the 54thX111th street in Chanmyathazi Township in Mandalay. According to the statement by the military council in the afternoon same day, four people were killed and eight others detained in the shootout. Four persons were killed after a vehicle hit a transformer at the corner of 54thX110th Street as the army shot the vehicle. According to the military council’s statement, eight PDF members were killed and eight others, detained in the shootout.
According to the statement by Mandalay PDF’s statement, two members were killed, one injured, six detained in the incident. Four victims killed in the shootout are not PDF members. They are just civilians. Around 10 military members including one officer were killed in the incident.
According to the locals and family members of the victims, those who were killed after the vehicle hit the transformer are civilians. The cause of deaths is not the car accident. It is due to the shooting by the military council’s troops.
Information to be cautious about
It is found that there were information blackouts, the release of erroneous news and the spread of fake news on purpose in the Mandalay shootout although the primary information may differ based on time and situation. Likewise, the similar situation is found in the arson attack in Kinma village in Pauk Township in Magway Region.
Especially, the military council and its terrorist troops try to hide their acts through the urgent release of information soon after committing brutal crackdowns and inhumane offenses. We noticed it since the beginning of the Spring Revolution in which Ma Thwe Thwe Khaing was shot dead in Nay Pyi Taw.
Individuals and the media should be careful that the direct spread of the statement by the military council is very dangerous for the public’s access to the correct information. Avoiding the acts of hiding the correct news become crucial at a time when the media are trying to quickly release the news during the revolution period.
All sectors need to be careful about the release of information which the public should know, with accountability and responsibility. They should be careful that their statements should not bring anxiety and fear to the public.
Matters which call for special attention
The killings of nearly 900 people during 150 days of the coup bear witness to the fact that the military council led by the coup leader military chief and his cohorts make brutal crackdowns on the dissidents with arm or without arms. Thousands of people are being detained unjustly. The military council has issued warrants for thousands of people from all strata. It seems that the leaders of the military council did not take account of protests against the coup.
The military council and terrorist troops are trying to do the brutal crackdown, the arrest and killings of all the people including the CDM civil servants, five-year-old peaceful protestor, Generation-Z youth and the elderly.
As a result of the Spring Revolution, the PDFs formed for the revolution against the military council have emerged under the different names. The PDFs become the special target of the military council. According to the daily news, the military council is tracking the PDFs.
Individuals and those included in the Spring Revolution should be especially careful about information security. The people should avoid uploading important information on the popular social media like Facebook and be cautious that all facts and photos are important for the military council.
It is found that the spread of false hopes for the people who oppose the coup may stymie the Spring Revolution.
Review
Take a look at the June 22 Mandalay Shootout, the June 15 Kinma arson in Magway, the June 5 Hlayswae village shootout in Ayeyawady, the same point is that there are the leakage of information, informants and the military council’s access to information, photos and video files via social media. There are still other incidents.
Security knowledge should be taken into account as the first priority at a time when plans are under way to clear informants and crush down the military council’s major pillars.
The people should always be careful that the PDF in Mandalay had to pay high price due to the uploading of a photo, a video file and a word on the social media in a careless manner.
In addition, it is evident that the security measures are important as the military council and its terrorist troops are using excessive forces in the brutal crackdowns on the dissidents and the shootings and killings of all the people without discriminating between the civilian or the PDF members.
It is reviewed that only the sharing of information from reliable news media on social media may help support the people’s access to correct information and the Spring Revolution rather than the direct spreads of statements from the military council. The entire people should be especially careful as there are the intentional spreads of fake video files in today’s IT age.
