11.30 am, December 15th is said to be the time misfortune overtook Lay Kay Kaw, a new town that symbolizes peace. But it is over 10 months late when compared to the whole country overtaken by misfortune. Before the junta troops’ invasion on December 14th, Lay Kay Kaw new town was said to be stable.
Due to fighting between the encroaching military council troops and the Karen National Union/ Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA), nearly 10,000 locals from the villages in Lay Kay Kaw town have fled to safer places.
The Myanmar Peace Monitor’s weekly news review for this week mainly focuses on the situations of the refugees from Lay Kay Kaw and other refugees fleeing for their lives to escape the junta troops.
