Zardi villager shot dead in Yebyu Township

A 27-year-old man from Zardi village in Yebyu Township in Dawei District in Tanintharyi Region, was shot dead by the naval force of the military council, according to locals.

The victim is Ko Aung Ko from Thittawhla ward in Zardi village.

He was shot dead by the soldiers as he encountered three military vehicles from Mawrawaddy naval base in Kanbauk while leaving a rubber plantation near Zardi village, at around 4.30 pm on 6 April.

“Soldiers on the military vehicles shot Ko Aung Ko dead. His dead body and motorcycle were taken to Mawrawaddy naval base. On the morning of 7 April, the military contacted his family to retrieve his body by ambulance. In the afternoon, the family cremated him at a cemetery in Zardi village,” the local added.

Ko Aung Ko is a rubber plantation worker. He is survived by a four-year-old child and his pregnant wife, according to locals.
