Three men including village administrator, woman arrested in Ywangan

The military council arrested three men and a woman, including a village administrator, in Ywangan Township in southern Shan State on 16 May, according to locals.

The military council arrested Theingone village administrator U Maung Htut, two men in their 40s and Daw Moe War, 40, on the evening of 16 May.

“We are unable to phone the village administrator. He got rearrested. Ma Moe Wah was also arrested. We are unable to contact the rest. We don’t know why they were arrested. We haven’t received any news yet,” said a local woman who knows about the incident.

On the evening of 16 May, the military council arrested two men in their 40s at their houses in Theingone village in Ywangan Township, locals said.

“The military arrested Ko Khin Maung Htay and Ko Aung Aung at their homes yesterday’s evening. I don’t know why they got arrested,” the local woman said.

On 13 June 2023, Daw Moe Wah’s husband was arrested and sentenced to 22 years in prison under Section of the Counter-Terrorism Law. And the house was sealed off, locals said.

Daw Moe Wah was doing tea trading by staying in the house of Theinkone village administrator as the house was sealed off, said a local who has the knowledge of the incident.

On 13 June 2023, the military council arrested Daw Moe Wah’s husband and the village administrator. On 18 June, the village administrator was released.

It is still unknown why the Theingone village administrator was re-arrested, locals said.
