The Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) is holding a talk with some members of the Northern Alliance in Panghsang controlled by the United Wa State Army (UWSA) during this week.
“It is true that our delegation arrived in Panghsang. The discussion aims to promote relations between the alliances. It is not the meeting organized by the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC),” Major Phone Han, Spokesperson of the SSPP/SSA told the Shan News.
“We cannot reveal the groups included in the meeting with the SSPP/SSA. We will reveal it only after the meeting,” Major Phone Han told the Shan News.
The Shan News is unable to separately confirm the groups included in the discussion although some members of the northern alliance are included in the discussion.
This meeting came after new Chinese special envoy Mr. Deng Xijun, the successor to special envoy Sun Guoxiang held separate talks with the Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs along the China-Myanmar border twice—one in December, 2022 and one in late February, 2023.
Political analysts based in Shan State said the meeting between some members of the northern alliance is a preparation for the talk with the Chinese Special Envoy.
Panghsang is a town controlled by the UWSA which has over 30,000 soldiers.
