Some junta soldiers from Nga Yant Ni outpost at Htee Khee border flee into Thailand

Some soldiers from the last remaining junta outpost in Nga Yant Ni (Nya P’la Khi), located at Htee Khee in Tanintharyi Region along the Thai-Myanmar border, have fled into Thailand, according to a source from Brigade 4 of the Karen National Union (KNU).

The joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) continued to seize junta outposts along the Thai-Myanmar border. Only 7 junta soldiers were left behind in the Nga Yant Ni outpost. The remaining troops fled into Thailand on 12 June.

An official from KNU Brigade 4 stated, “I believe they fled out of fear that the resistance forces are growing stronger. Only seven soldiers remained at the Nga Yant Ni outpost. The rest escaped into Thailand.”

The current situation of the remaining military council members in the camp and the number of military council members who have fled are still being investigated.

On 12 June, Padoh Saw Eh Na, the Secretary of Myeik-Dawei District of KNU Brigade 4 said that the Nga Yant Ni outpost was abandoned before any attack by the KNLA. He explained that the junta could neither provide reinforcement nor had the capacity to defend the base in case of a battle. He also mentioned that they had not yet launched an area clearing operation in the area.

After the joint forces of the KNLA captured the Bawdi (E Tha Khe) outpost, stationed by more than 60 soldiers from the junta’s Infantry Battalion 25 on 10 June, only the Nga Yant Ni outpost remained near the border route as the last military council base close to Bawdi camp.

According to KNU Brigade 4, when the KNLA joint forces launched an assault on Point 2566, also known as the Bawdi camp, junta soldiers abandoned the camp along with their weapons. Nearly 30 of them managed to flee across the border into Thailand.

The joint forces of the KNLA also succeeded in capturing the junta’s Htee Hta strategic hill outpost and Htee Khee base along the Htee Khee border in April and May of this year.

After the capture of the Nga Yant Ni outpost, all junta military bases along the Htee Khee on the Thai-Myanmar border have now been cleared.

As a result, the KNU will be able to manage and secure the border trade route and also work toward enabling the safe return of displaced civilians to their homes.
