One civilian was killed and six others wounded in the military council’s airstrikes on three villages in Mone Township in Nyaunglebin District in Bago Region in the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade-3-Controlled area on 3 September, according to locals.

The military council conducted airstrikes in Ngahtwaysoke, Myatye (Karen) and Myatye (Bamar) villages in Mone Township on the afternoon of 3 September. The victims who were killed and wounded in the airstrike are from Ngahtwaysoke village, a local man said.

“I don’t know the situation in Myatye village. Yesterday afternoon, the military council conducted aerial bombardment in Myatye. This battle is the result of the Thitchaseik battle. I didn’t hear that it was a battle yesterday,” the local man said.

The military council conducted airstrikes three times. More than 10 civilian houses from Ngahtwaysoke village were burned down in the airstrike. Locals from three villages have fled to safety, according to local news sources.

A resident who did not want to be named said: “The villagers fled to the neighboring villages, and there was nowhere else to flee. They are from the village beside Ngahtwaysoke. There is no one left in Myatye village.”

Fighting took place when the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) and the joint force captured the Thitchaseik camp of the military council in Mone Township on 31 August.

Locals from 26 villages including Myatye village have fled to safety due to the military council’s shelling and airstrikes, according to the KNU’s statement dated 2 September.

Locals said the military council fired heavy shells into some villages where the KNLA joint force are believed to be present, via Thahtaykone village on 3 September. The Karen Information Center (KIC) is still investigating the situations in two Myatye villages.
