Nearly 20 junta soldiers killed in Pyinshae battle in Kyaukphyu

Nearly 20 junta soldiers were killed in the ongoing conflict in Pyinshae in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, and weapons and ammunition were seized by the Arakha Army (AA), according to local military sources.

On the morning of 9 April, intense clashes took place between the advancing military column and the AA near Pyinshae village in Ghonechwin Station, Kyaukphyu Township, as junta forces attempted to move into the area.

“About 20 soldiers were killed. The AA seized 10 bodies and weapons and ammunition. The remaining bodies were taken away by the junta forces,” the source said.

The local man from Kyaukphyu said: ÒSince the beginning of April, the fighting has been going on in the Pyinshae area. The junta soldiers stationed in the monastery and school conducted a counter offensive as the AA seized control of them.”

It is reported that on the night of 1 April, the AA captured the positions of the junta forces, where about 150 troops were stationed in the monastery and classroom in Pyinshae village.
It was also announced by the Three Brotherhood Alliance that on 1 February 2024, a battle took place between the junta forces and the AA near Yemek village, close to Pyinshae village.

Daily clashes are occurring in Kyaukphyu, one of the last three towns still under resistance in Arakan State, alongside Sittwe and Manaung.

Although fighting has stopped in Sittwe, one of the remaining two towns, it is reported that the junta forces continue to fire heavy artillery at the townships controlled by the AA.

According to local sources, there has been no conflict in Manaung Township, which is fully controlled by the junta.
