Nineteen civilians were killed in Thanintharyi Region in October this year due to arrests and killings by military council troops, hand-held groups, and armed resistance forces, according to a report by FE5 Thanintharyi, a local research group, announced on November 19.
According to FE5 Thanintharyi’s report, the causes of civilian deaths include killings during military advances, arrests, drone bombings, heavy shelling, and attacks.
In October, 12 civilians including a six-year-old child and a seven-year-old child, were killed by the military council and military-affiliated militia force.
The military council, during its advance on Launglon, Palaw, and Thayetchaung villages, arrested and killed eight civilians, whose bodies were subsequently lost, the report says.
Due to the PDF’s assassination of informants, Pyu Saw Htee members U Naung Ni and U Ba Oo from 19th Mile village in Kawthoung Township were killed. Three civilians were also killed by the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA), an ethnic armed group.
On the other hand, an administrator from Kyauk Peik village in Kyunsu Township and a local from Shwe Ge Nyo village in Bokepyin Township, were arrested and killed by an unknown armed group.
Only 147 of at least 208 civilians who were arrested by the military council for various reasons in October were released, according to the FE5 Thanintharyi’s report.
In September, the miliatry council and its allies arrested and killed 17 civilians in Tanintharyi Region.
