A mother and her 9-year-old child were shot dead while working in an orchard near Tan Ku in Mawdaung town in Tanintharyi Region, locals reported.
The mother Ma Zarchi Oo, 25, and her 9-year-old son Maung Lin Oo, were shot and killed in the orchard on the morning of 30 April.
The child and his mother were shot and died on the spot from gunshot wounds to the head.
According to local residents, they were shot when her husband went went hunting in the forest, the victims had no connection with any groups.
The diseased were residents of Aye Tharyar Ward in Mawdaung town and the motive for the shooting was still unknown.
The People’s Defense Force – Tanintharyi Township said that it was not them who shot the mother and her son and strongly condemned the senseless killing of the civilians.
In Tanintharyi Region, an estimated 500 civilians have been killed in the more than two years since the military coup, according to a regional research group.
