Revolutionary forces and local residents report growing concerns among locals as military council troops are shelling Myoebye and surrounding villages along the Shan-Karenni border.

Although there was no intense fighting in Moebye in December, there were some clashes, according to Tar Eh Soe, spokesperson for the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF).

“The junta fires heavy shells in Moebye every day. While there are only a few clashes within Moebye itself, the junta is shelling the villages along the east bank of Moebye Dam,” said Tar Eah Soe.

On the morning of 17 December, locals expressed concern about potential civilian casualties as the junta’s Loikaw-based battalion fired heavy shells towards Moebye.

A local man said, “The junta frequently fires heavy shells in Moebye, regardless of whether there is fighting or not. They especially fire from Pekon, Loikaw, and Loilenlay. Today, there is fighting, and once again, the junta is shelling.”

The junta deliberately launched drone bomb attacks on an IDP camp in Moebye on 4 December, killing three civilians and injuring three others.

The military council frequently conducts artillery shelling and drone bomb attacks on civilian areas, even in the absence of ground fighting.

The revolutionary forces urged the locals to be careful as the military council starts using poisons in December while dropping bombs with drones on Moebye and nearby areas.

The military council is attempting to reclaim Moebye, which has been under the control of revolutionary forces for over a year. Fighting between the two sides has resumed since the second week of November.
