The military council conducted about 110 airstrikes in Loikaw in Karenni (Kayah) State from 1 to 9 December, according to the Karenni Army (KA).
The military council conducted airstrikes using long-range weapons and 500-pound bombs. Among those shootings, 9 December saw the most shootings, with 47 shootings in one day.
“Everyone has already known the procedure of the military council. The main thing is the army is carrying out aerial bombardment to restore its administration. But it doesn’t last long. I just want to say that they will have to fall soon,” Colonel Phone Naing, military chief of the KA said.
According to local residents, most of the houses were damaged by aerial bombardment in DawUkhu, Narnattaw and Naungyar wards where intense fighting is taking place.
“There are about four wards where homes were damaged. An entire ward was almost destroyed, mostly by airstrikes and heavy weapons. Most of the civilian deaths were due to the airstrikes and heavy shelling,” a local from Loikaw said.
After “Operation 11.11” began on 11 November, the military council has been conducting airstrikes almost every day in Loikaw.
He also said that since the beginning of the fighting in Loikaw, there have been 477 airstrikes by the military council and that the military council mainly relies on heavy shelling and airstrikes.
According to the statement released by Karenni Humanitarian Aid Initiative (KHAI) on 9 December, there were 82 civilian deaths in a month—43 deaths by heavy shelling, 24 by airstrikes and 15 by murdering.
