Mass seasonal flu infections are reported among the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region where martial law is imposed, the persons helping the IDPs told the Than Lwin Times.

The number of IDPs who suffer from the flu has exceeded 300 since the start of seasonal flu in the second week of May. In some families, all family members are infected with seasonal flu.

They said that the displaced people are suffering from seasonal flu as well as malaria and diarrheal diseases, and the presence of infections has led to the situation being monitored.

Refugees are facing a shortage of medicine while the seasonal flu is spreading on a mass scale, said Collaborative (Twal Laat Nyenye) Refugee Relief Team.

The aid group urged the public to donate medicines necessary for the IDPs and relevant organizations to provide humanitarian aid.

The IDPs in Tanintharyi Township are facing various difficulties due to the military council’s restriction on the transportation of food and medicine.

During the more than 2 years of the military coup in Tanintharyi Township, nearly 8,000 local residents have fled due to heavy shelling and fighting, according to those helping the IDPs.
