Locals are facing transportation difficulty as the military council has destroyed the road section between Kawkareik Township and Kyarinseikgyi Township in Karen State.

At around 10 am on 14 May, the military council destroyed the road section in Taungkyarin village connecting Kawkareik-Kyarinseikgyi-Mudon with bulldozers. On 13 May, the military council also destroyed the road section at the entrance in the southern part of Kawkareik with bulldozers.

Locals face transportation difficulties due to the military council’s destruction of entrance roads to Kawkareik. They also face difficulty in carrying rations, according to locals.

“This road connects Mudon to Myawaddy. We can’t use this road. As far as I know, the military council has destroyed all entrance roads in Kawkareik,” said a local from Kyondoe.

Since 6 May, the military council has closed Taungkyarin bridge which is a major creek-crossing bridge on this road section, according to locals.

Since the closure of Taungkyarin Bridge, Light Infantry Battalion-97 in Kawkareik has fired heavy shells into the village almost every night, according to locals.
