The Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) has indefinitely closed the Myit Tar-Htee Khee border trade route in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, a section of the Thai-Myanmar border trade route, starting from 27 December, according to local residents.

“Hser Ka Hsaw Division of KTLA’s Hser Khee Lar Headquarters has issued an announcement prohibiting all vehicles, both large and small, from traveling on the main road from Myit Tar to the Htee Khee border,” said a local resident.

The ethnic army has warned that they will not be responsible for any consequences if travelers disregard this announcement.

However, the KTLA has not yet released any official statement regarding this indefinite closure of the Myit Tar -Htee Khee border route.

Locals say the indefinite closure will affect both transportation of goods and migrant workers planning to travel to Thailand.

Currently, there are speculations that the closure may be related to ongoing military tensions between Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 4 and KTLA forces.

According to locals, KNLA and KTLA forces engaged in at least four clashes near Bar Mae Mountain along the Dawei-Htee Khee road during the third week of December.

Local sources report that five KTLA members were injured and 14 were captured by the KNLA during these clashes.
