The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) will continue to participate in armed resistance revolution until it can enable the liberation of the entire Karenni nation from oppression, seek justice and build the federal union which fully guarantee justice and self-determination, said U Aung San Myint, Secretary-2 of the KNPP said on the 66th Anniversary of founding the KNPP which falls on 2 May.

“We are joining hands with the organizations which are trying to topple the military dictator and any dictators and promise to build the federal democratic union. This is the KNPP’s political goal. We will strive for the full exercising of self-determination in the future by joining hands with other ethnic groups, political parties, CSOs, youths and women,” he added.

The KNPP stands by the entire people who are in the struggle to fight against any tyranny that has arisen on a national scale and to build a federal democratic union. The KNPP is engaging in the resistance revolution in accordance with its political goal to fight for the liberation of the entire Karenni nation from oppression.

For more than 70 years, the KNPP has been engaging in the armed struggle by laying down the political objectives. Since the military council seized power, the KNPP has tried to find a solution to the political talks many times in order to fulfill the political goals, but it has not been able to discuss the basic points, U Aung Sans Myint said.

During 66 years, the KNPP could cope with the impacts of revolution including political and military testing. The KNPP steadfastly has been engaging in the Karenni national resistance revolution according to the set fundamental principles, according to the statement.

The KNPP has been engaging in the armed revolution in terms of politics and military by joining hand with other ethnics in order to ensure the fall of Bamar Chauvinism, which is a common enemy and the military dictatorship and build the federal democratic union which can guarantee equality, self-determination and democratic rights, according to the statement.

On 9 August, 1948, the Karenni National Resistance started with the aim of gaining independence and self-determination the Karenni people lost due to the imperialist invasion of the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League (AFPFL)-led government. For political leadership, the KNPP was formed in Hilu (Kathoekhee) village in Powow Township, Lopwarkho District in Karenni State on 2 Mary, 1957.

Following the coup, the KNPP did not participate in the military council’s peace talks.

The KNPP said in 2022 that the military council’s invitations to the peace talks with the armed groups did not cover the whole country.

“The KNPP received one or two official invitation letters. However, we did not attend the talks. It is not the right time for us to hold political dialogues with the military council. Now we first need to make necessary preparations for seeking the solutions to the political dialogue. That’s why we skipped the talks,” U Aung San Myint continued.

The KNPP is an ethnic armed organization which has not signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).

In 2012, it signed the state-level ceasefire agreement in the U Thein Sein Administration in 2012.
